SAVE Dade condemns the passage of HB 655 which preempts local governments from affording hard working Floridians earned sick time. We consider it a troubling development that the Florida legislature is meddling in local affairs.
HB 655 could let Florida's legislature deny thousands of LGBT domestic partners the employee protections and benefits we all depend on to make ends meet in today's economy. Because of HB 655, LGBT members of Florida's working middle class will not have a voice when it comes to enacting local laws for employee protections like municipal procurement ordinances, which mandate that firms hired by local governments must honor same-sex domestic partner benefits.
We urge Governor Scott to protect Florida's working working middle class, including LGBT workers with domestic partners, and STOP the state legislature's overreach into the business of local government by vetoing the bill.
TELL GOVERNOR SCOTT: VETO HB 655!
