Turning Advocacy Into Action at the Capitol

Each year, SAVE brings the power of South Florida’s LGBTQ+ community to the Florida Capitol. Tallahassee Lobby Days is our statewide advocacy push to meet face-to-face with lawmakers, elevate our stories, and fight for the rights and dignity of every LGBTQ+ Floridian.

In 2025, we showed what coordinated advocacy can do—over 200 legislative meetings, 7 Legislative Equality Awards presented, and not a single anti-LGBTQ+ bill passed.

What Lobby Days Look Like

For two full days during Florida’s legislative session, SAVE organizes and leads a delegation of advocates, youth leaders, and community partners to Tallahassee. We train participants on the issues, prepare testimony, and guide them through scheduled meetings with elected officials and key decision-makers.

It’s direct. It’s strategic. And it’s working.

We advocate on the policies that matter most—from protecting LGBTQ+ students and healthcare access to defending local nondiscrimination protections and challenging state preemption efforts.

Why We Go

Tallahassee may feel far away, but the laws passed there shape everything—what books are allowed in schools, who can access affirming healthcare, and whether local governments can protect our rights.

That’s why showing up matters. When lawmakers hear from LGBTQ+ constituents, survivors, students, parents, and policy experts face-to-face, it makes a difference. We make sure they know our stories, see our strength, and feel the consequences of their votes.

In 2025, we didn’t just show up—we stopped every anti-LGBTQ+ bill.

This year, SAVE’s Lobby Days delegation:

Held over 200 meetings with Florida legislators and staff

Presented 7 Legislative Equality Awards to lawmakers who stood up for our community
